I would definitely use learning objects in my future classroom. I think that they would help students learn the information being presented in many different ways. In my future classroom, I would definitely combine different instructional architectures. Students could even be given the chance to work with their peers when going through learning objects. Also, different students could be given different learning objects to go through depending on their various learning styles.
I think when learning objects are created, various web-based tools could be incorporated. Like the example presented where students had to create a comic strip, students could be given a program such as Bitstrip to create their own comic strip. Additionally, videos could be incorporated in the different instructional architectures, and simulations.
Great point about being able to collaborate with teachers all over the world. I really do like the concept of learning objectives. Like you said Objective, instruction assessment, back to the basics of teaching.
ReplyDeleteI think collaboration with others are critical in order to grow professionally. Bookmarking tools and the host of web 2.0 interactive and collaborative tools can make this a very unique experience and easily foster collaboration with others.
ReplyDeleteI think many of us already use learning objects without knowing it. Anytime we use a resource, module, video, or other object we did not create ourselves then we have done so. Now if only we could compile these and organize them for access nationwide, wouldn't that be wonderful?!
ReplyDeleteCatherine,
ReplyDeleteI agree that using learning objects would be useful to collaborate with teachers. You have a good idea about having your future students work together to go through the learning objects. The strategy that you would give different learning objects to various students shows that you differentiate your instruction based on your student’s needs.
Plus it seems like you could collect student's comics, vokis, or other projects they make online, and those can be learning objects for future students.
ReplyDeleteCatherine, I liked the idea of your incorporation of content creation tools like Bitstrip to accompany the use of learning objects. With some careful planning, a teacher could bring a meaningful learning experience together using these objects and tools that address the standards course of study. I think these learning objects have value in an of themselves, but helping students to see where they fit into the bigger picture rather than just stand alone curiosities or forms of entertainment is an important role that the instructor plays.
